Discussion on the role of braided shielding of EV high-voltage cables

EV high-voltage cables are mainly composed of conductors, insulation, shielding and sheathing. The shielding layer generally adopts a braided copper mesh or copper moor (aluminum) structure, which protects the conductor and generally needs to be grounded. Studies have shown that the increase in the braiding coverage of a considerable number of EV high-voltage shielded cable products will reduce the shielding effectiveness characteristics.
EV high-voltage shielded cable designs usually consist of shielding tape and a single layer of braid, or a single layer of braid. Depending on the application, the materials required for the shielding layer are also different, such as copper wire braided shielding, copper tape wrapping shielding, and so on. Among them, in order to ensure the continuity of the shielding layer and reduce the transfer impedance of the shielding layer, copper tape wrapping shielding usually needs to place one or more annealed copper wires in the shielding layer longitudinally as a drain wire.
The main function of copper wire braid:
1. Shielding effect against electromagnetic interference
2. Eliminate the shielding effect of the surface potential of the EV high-voltage cable and eliminate the induced electricity
3. The shielding effect of safety protection, braided copper wire outside the main core insulation and good contact with the ground core or used as a ground wire, can timely reflect the leakage
