Performance Comparison of High Voltage Conductor Insulation Layer Materials

The difference between the high-voltage wire and the low-voltage wire is the insulation layer. The high-voltage wire has a double-layer insulation layer, and the outer layer of insulation is also called the secondary sheath. The materials used for the insulating layer are generally XLPO, SIR, and TPE.
In terms of temperature level, SIR has a higher temperature resistance level, which can reach 180-200 degrees, followed by XLPO, while TPE is a thermoplastic material, and there is a risk of cracking in long-term use. If the temperature of the use site is very high, you can choose SIR material .
In terms of hardness, silicone is softer and has a smaller bending radius.
In terms of tensile strength, XLPO can reach 10.3, which is the strongest among the three materials.
Elongation at break: The elongation of silica gel after short-term aging is greater than 100%, and the performance is better.
Oil resistance: Of the three materials, the best oil resistance is XLPO, followed by TPE.
Flame retardant grade: XLPO can pass various flame retardant tests of finished products. Generally speaking, the flame retardant performance is stronger than that of silica gel.
As for short-term and long-term aging, relevant reports and studies have shown that the higher the temperature resistance level, the better the aging performance, so the aging performance of silica gel is very good.
At present, XLPO is actually more widely used in the market, and the price of silica gel material is relatively high. However, if conditions permit, silica gel can be used in occasions with small wiring space. As an insulating material for EV high-voltage cables, the effect is actually very good.
